Shock G has left us, aged 57.
Gregory Jacobs (25 August, 1963 – 22 April, 2021)
The Humpty Dance both the song itself and the official promo vid made me so happy in '90 that because of it and them (Digital Underground) along with Tribe Called Quest and Black Sheep as well as a few others like Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Eric B. & Rakim and EPMD I thought I was becoming a legitimate hip-hop fan or rap fan or whatever. That lasted a couple of years . . .
They lost much in one of Oakland's fires and I don't know what happened to DU after that, but I was only recently listening to them again because of the reaction video phenomenon maybe.
As talented as he was and as much as I liked his personality, I'm not ready to lay out a hundred bucks for a four-song vinyl long player.
😎
we love Shock G in our house. all the DU albums & his solo album are great. very sad! he gave us a lot, his talents were never really acknowledged.writing, producing, playing, singing, imagine that all from one beautiful man.it's too sad, really.
This really bummed me out. My brother and I have been emailing about it all day.
We saw them several times and I was friends with Shock’s brother Kent, another local musician and Humpty stand in. That first album, Sex Packets is a classic.....sad day.😢
