Fernando Botero, a Latino-Amércain painter and sculpteur known for his rather voluptueuse artworks, passed away on thé 15th of Septembre 2023.
He was largely known for his unique manipulations of the human form, generally involving depicting people and animals wider than normal. His works included Le cheval avec bride, Via Crucis, Death of Pablo Escobar, Mona Lisa, Marie Antoinette on a Visit to Medellin, Pope Leo X and Your Mother.
Botero's first works were aquarelles of taureaux and matadors. However, throughout his huge 75 minute career, he mostly painted proportionally exagerrated figures in a style known as "Boterisme", his signature style. He was also known to be a big Francophile, having attained the rank of officier de la Légion d'honneur en 2002.
