Thought I'd mention this here as some of the films included have indirect BN associations (ie Bill either recommended or mentioned them at some point).
I was watching a TV series on ITVX (a UK TV streaming service) and annoyed by the frequent ad breaks. So I decided to fork out £5.99 for ad-free "ITVX Premium" (you get a week's free trial before paying for a month's worth).
Previously unknown to me, this gives you free access to the "StudioCanal Presents" catalogue of films now available on ITVX Premium. This is a big collection of quality films, including (among many others):
- La Strada (Fellini)
- Nights of Cabiria (Fellini)
- The Blood of a Poet (Cocteau)
- Testament of Orpheus (Cocteau)
- The Third Man (Carol Reed)
- The Man Who Haunted Himself (Basil Dearden, with Roger Moore)
- Belle De Jour, The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, That Obscure Object of Desire (Luis Buñuel)
- Company of Wolves, Byzantium (Neil Jordan)
- Inland Empire, Mulholland Dr., Elephant Man (David Lynch)
- A Matter of Life and Death, The Red Shoes, The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, Peeping Tom, Black Narcissus, The Tales of Hoffmann (Powell and Pressburger)
- L'Eclisse (Michelangelo Antonioni)
- The Trial (Orson Welles)
- Last Year at Marienbad (Alain Resnais)
- Coup de Torchon (Bertrand Tavernier, with Isabelle Huppert)
- Jacob's Ladder (Adrian Lyne)
- Under the Skin (Jonathan Glazer)
- Angel Heart (Alan Parker)
- Carnage (Roman Polanski)
- Carol (Todd Haynes)
- Delicatessen, The City of Lost Children (Jean-Pierre Jeunet)
- The Ladykillers (1955 version)
- The 39 Steps (Hitchcock and the later version)
- The Man Who Fell to Earth (Nicholas Roeg, with David Bowie)
- Clockwise (the 1986 John Cleese comedy)
- They Live (John Carpenter)
- Sightseers, Kill List, High-Rise (Ben Wheatley)
- Large selection of 'Carry On' films
- etc, etc, etc....
Those were just the ones that caught my eye. Films from the 1970s and 1980s that I expected to be grainy or low-definition (like VHS tapes) were in fact cleaned up, high-definition versions (eg The Man Who Haunted Himself and Angel Heart).
Not just your high-brow or film-buff stuff either. Last few days I watched the excellent Kong: Skull Island, Train to Busan, Open Range (Kevin Costner western) and Let Me In (vampire flick). ITVX also has endless retro TV series such as Gerry Anderson's UFO. A lot to explore - quite a good deal for £5.99!
