Mick would have been 65 years old today. His bass playing was sublime and he had such a unique and instantly recognizable sound, which really was the 'magic-ingredient' in Japan's own unique formula. He remains a favourite musician of mine and it's hard to believe 12 years has gone since his passing.
Wonder why this was at the top of my Google last night. Was it because algorithms indicated I likely knew it was MK’s birthday? I didn't Google him or them.
😟 12 years already? Goodness me, I would never have thought that! Time is flying too too fast!!!
One of my favourite musicians too, from one of my favourite bands - I still miss his presence in the world of music - a hugely talented man - gorgeous fretless bass, sax, oboe, keyboards, vocals, composition, paintings, sculptures - did I miss anything?
happy birthday to Mick Karn, wherever you are and thanks to Tourist for bringing this day to my attention.
It's a great album and the last solo album Mick made.
Possibly my favourite solo album of his and, yes, fantastic painting/cover art, which fits so well with the more organic sound/feel on this recording. I think I'm right in saying drummer Pete Lockett was the only other musician to contribute to The Concrete Twin, Mick Karn playing all other instruments.
