Residing 704 million light-years from Earth, this system is catalogued as Arp-Madore 2026-424 (AM 2026-424). This new image from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope captures two galaxies of equal size in a collision that appears to resemble a ghostly face.
Amazing really, and what an amazing achievement the Hubble telescope is.
To me this image resembles a ghostly 'grey alien' face, the ones that are often depicted in Sci-Fi illustrations.
The whole concept of the cosmos is pretty mind-blowing....Just thinking about the distance alone, 704 million light years!...in all honesty, one can grasp the concept of a light year and just about give the physical parameter of that distance some meaning that actually makes some sense within our ability to conceive and understand 'distance'...But that's about where it ends, you can't really make sense of 10 light years, 100 light years...so, call it one million lights years and multiply that by 704 = mind blown!
