Brian's tune "Look At Me, I'm You" from the classic 1967 fractured psych-pop classic LP"We Are Ever So Clean"...ironically the band was pressured into the psychedelic style by manager Giorgio Gomelsky and had decidedly mixed feelings....
Thanks Brett. I too was surprised and delighted to see this on you tube (a nice series despite it's overuse of early 1980's digital video effects!) that included Fred Frith and Derek Bailey.
Brian first came to my attention on Magma's amazing Kohntarkosz LP and the single Mekanik Machine (both presumably recorded at the Manor in 1973). Interesting that after an illustrious career in pop, rock and jazz, he turned to purely improvised music later in his career.
Jazz On Four 'Crossing Bridges' - six renown 'free-improvisation' guitarists, Ron Geesin, Keith Rowe, Fred Frith, Hans Reichel, John Russell, Brian Godding, recorded at AdVision sound studios. (TX 06/08/83).
Music/performance like this, the whole thing, is right up my street. I'm imagining right now, just how fabulous it would be/would have been, to see this as part of a live set, a whole performance set around this ambient, avant-garde style. I think it would be great, small venue, no frills stage set up, attentive audience and just soak up those wonderful sounds.😎
Glad you enjoyed it! He was a very intelligent guy with a wicked sense of humor- heres a link to his website and his very droll (and insightful) recollections of his long career- I had a little back and forth with Brian when I bought an autographed cd of Blossom Toes "We Are Ever So Clean: from him many years ago. A very entertaining read....
