Yellow Magic Orchestra legend Yukihiro Takahashi has revealed he underwent surgery to remove a brain tumour earlier this month.
Via a written note on his website, the Japanese artist — who rose to fame playing alongside Ryuichi Sakamoto and Haruomi Hosono in YMO — made the reveal to fans earlier today, explaining that he had surgery on August 13. Currently, Takahashi is still in hospital recovering. However, he called the operation a success, stating, "The progress is going well."
Apparently, Takahashi had been suffering from intermittent headaches since early this summer. While the musician initially thought these were due to migraines onset by the changing seasons, he eventually had an MRI when his symptoms failed to improve, revealing the headaches were the result of a brain tumour.
Describing the moment when he learned of his diagnoses, Takahashi stated it was "a long day when he could not catch reality and was unable to speak in despair."
With Takahashi now labelling the operation a success, the artist said he's found a new peace of mind and will now concentrate of his treatment. In his message, he also took time to thank the medical staff overseeing his treatment.
"I want to try to stand before you as soon as possible," Takahashi said in his message to fans.

Wishing him all the best for a quick and full recovery.
Just got an update on Yuki's full message and an apology for the poor translation (I reckon previously) ...
Dear all,
This is the information from Yukihiro Takahashi.
From this early summer, I had a continuous headache. At first I think this is a simple migraine which will be caused by season changing, but the symptom will not be improved. So I urgently had a MRI inspection of my brain. The result was the doubt of a brain tumour.
I could not accept this reality and for me the long day was started which I could not say anything defeated by desperation. And right after hospitalisation for routine tests, on 8/13, August, the operation which removed the affected area was done and successfully finished.
Fortunately I had no sequel after surgery. From now, I should build up my stamina and willpower, and carefully and firmly concentrate on treatment and I will do my best to stand in front of all of you as soon as possible.
I deeply apologise to the on-going work and all of the colleagues and staff involved in my work. So sorry.
And I also would like to pay my heartfelt respects and gratitude to those who, the doctor, the nurse, the medical staff, who worked so hard for me from my urgent hospitalisation to surgery .
I hope for a while, you will keep silently watching me.
