OK, let's figure this out. 8-10 PM UK UTC. That is Noon to 2 pm West Coast of America Time.
Program
Introductions: Hosted by Jon Wallinger from Bill's house with screen shared video from preproduction pieces. Including photos of Bill's toys / trophies. Victor is a must.
Greetings by Bill & Emiko
Studio song #1 - Bill's guitar of choice from the Magic Toyshop.
Studio guest - John Spence explains how the music made in the room (home studio) goes to Fairview.
Short video of John at work behind the big board. Could include photo images of Bill from long ago.
Commentary on the nuances of picking the right guitar for the right passage / layer.
Studio guest - Martin Bostock sharing of video of photographic images of Bill in action. Recollection of performances and set pieces.
Participants move to the living room and the discussion of what goes into an album. Old days - 3 singles and a bunch of filler, tour, visits to radio stations, and come home to do it all again. Try to get on Top of the Pops.
Now - package up music that flows, pick out the right name, design the graphics / chose the photography, master it all and decide on how many units to make. An overview of the Burning Shed / Esoteric partnership.
Acoustic song - Bill in the front room.
Mayor moderates' questions from the audience.
No tour. No live gigs. No radio appearances. No promo hype machinery. Webpages and dealing directly with fans. Bandcamp and other distribution platforms. Facebook. Health. Family updates. Short little snippets of Bill at home with a nice glass of wine speaking with friends. With maybe a few surprise friends or family. [That is your cue, Elliot.]
Zoom or Teams or some other meeting software. Everybody muted except for the speakers. Could have nice graphics between segments. 5 people total on site. However, many it takes to create the little videos / photography / graphics.
Think of it as an extended Holiday video with some live look ins into Bill's world, discussing his career and listening to his music. Maybe seeing some of his art.
A COVID World production. A Nelsonica like no other. No need to hire a guitar technician to move everything. No need for performance clothes. No overwhelming anxiety. No need to drive. Maybe an autographed keepsake post event. An ep sort of deal. Could help pay for everything.
I just spent 90 minutes chatting with people over many, many miles in multiple counties, and jurisdictions. So, I would think that a Zoom call could do the trick. Or a Microsoft TEAMS meeting.
Essentially one would be the host, invite people to participate and would set the schedule. I would think that 2 hours should suffice. The agenda would be intro of Bill in his studio, however much time he would grant us to tour his set up and ask questions. Then maybe a preview of a song in progress, or a performance - Bill's choice. Bill would not even have to be in attendance the whole time. A virtual auction of items could occur, folks could chat with each other.
The biggest challenge is who has the software and capabilities to host, coordinate an acceptable hour for all of use worldwide Nelsonians to be on our computers, and Bill's availability. I believe that there is an option to record everything. Bits and pieces could then be uploaded to whatever platform for further distribution.
This is where I would call on Mr. Mayor to put forth a proposal to Bill.
@sauropod Please take it upon yourself to package up Bill, Emi, a guitar tech, a sound guy, and fly them to America. Pick a city, any city, even Kanas City. Don't forget room lodging, ground transportation and food and drink.
hmmm,
OK, so I've "attended" several webcast concerts over the past 2 years
with variable experiences. What I have found from the best events
a) Need 2-3 cameras (can be remote controlled) but you need a combined
lighting /video / audio mixing desk with people who know what they're doing
b) Need a reliable high bandwidth internet connection from the
venue
Given the above I think you're looking at hiring a venue for all the equipment
and people - and Bill is still going to need a guitar tech.
You've got to remember that Bill's performances are not just a guy with a guitar,
there's a whole load of other stuff happening😀😎
