I'd be happy to pre-order right now, as I have for previous projects. Since I don't pop over the pond to get to Merry Olde England, I hope that there is still an opportunity for an autograph. That should drive up physical sales! Or it could be a way to lessen inventory. Buy 3, get one signed.
The option to pre-order my CD albums enables accurate pressings to be made by Burning Shed, something that couldn't be done with the old SOS system. This way, if the pre-orders come to, say 650, Burning Shed can press up that amount and know that they won't have stock sitting unsold.
With regard to 'The Jewel', the pre-orders only warranted a pressing of 500 copies, so that was what was manufactured. However, the album has also been issued as a digital download on Bandcamp, so that those who prefer a download to a physical CD could get the album, and anyone who didn't pre-order the physical CD for whatever reason could at least get the download and not miss out. It's a much better, more flexible system.
But, if you do prefer a physical CD, (as do I,) then the answer is to put in a pre-order prior to release and secure your copy that way. Just check this site regularly for announcements or sign up for the Dreamsville newsletters to get advance notice of releases. Hope that helps...
Wow, I didn't realize the digital download would be available the same day as the physical release. I'm a BN completist in terms of his music but not necessarily the physical CDs. I would have gladly given up my CD to someone who missed out had I known this was immediately available. Actually it's available now while my CD is somewhere over the Atlantic! Perhaps I should have known about the simultaneous release but I haven't been following the forum as often as I had been. Regardless, I'm looking forward to the music. Per samples it sounds like a laid-back soundtrack for a quiet C-19 afternoon indoors.
The newsletter that I sent out did mention that it would be a simultaneous release with the digital download version from Bandcamp.
Hopefully in the future, there shouldn't be anybody who 'misses out' on the physical CD releases, as they will get sufficient time to secure their copy with the pre-order system that Burning Shed have in place...those that do miss out will always be able to rely on Bandcamp.
@Jon This is great news! As there are - what - twelve cd projects still awaiting to see the light of the cd player? I know that I have lost count. And there are more to come! Wooooo!
Would the BBC have the masters of the Red Noise live concert? Bill has mentioned that he was tempted to boot the boots and package up a Red Noise box. I know that it is not his priority - family / health should always be #1 - but I think that is the biggest hole in my collection, as I live in North America in the back of beyond.
But I have a cd flying my way, as I got a notification from Burning Shed.
I’m sure that whatever archives are hidden away, when Esoteric Recordings approach the Red Noise material, they will do their usual sterling work finding interesting additions.
Sorry you’ve missed out...There were THREE email notifications sent out, detailing that CDs would be pressed according to the number of pre-orders received by Burning Shed. There were only 4 hundred and something orders, so the manufacturing run was set to 500...simple as that. There are still unsold albums from previous 1000 edition runs sitting on the shelves at Burning Shed, some of them many years old. The Jewel will be available as a digital download from Bandcamp on release day (17th April). Bill’s original intention was that The Jewel would be a download only release, so those 500 physical copies should be viewed as bonus copies. In the future, if you want to secure a physical copy, follow the advice sent out in the newsletters and pre-order the album before it goes to be manufactured. Hope that explains things.
The latest email from Burning Shed says that this one will only be a pressing of just 500 copies. Now, I've already ordered my copy but - in case anyone has been becoming very relaxed about ordering now that Burning Shed are pressing more than was the case - this one is a return to the 'blink-and-you-missed it' releases that we were used to for several years. I assume that Bandcamp will be the only back-up. Order now, if you are able.
'The Jewel is just one of many previously unreleased albums that have been sitting in my archives for several years. Recorded in 2016 it is an instrumental work, an album of abstract, impressionistic guitarscapes and the occasional ambient jazz excursion, an album that will, hopefully, reveal more of its secrets with extended listening.' - Bill Nelson, March 2020. Pre-order for 17th April release. A Burning Shed exclusive limited to a pressing of 1000 copies
We all have more pressing issues for the moment (no pun intended)! but Bill's seemingly change of heart has left some of us rather disappointed having received this recent announcement as highlighted by TheMike
Decided to jump the gun, while waiting, and get the Bandcamp The Jewel. 😊
Interesting, Alec. Sounds like a good name for a somber rock band.
Regret I cant visit the frogs. It will be some time before we are allowed
to head for the hills.
Stay safe !
Well the blue crabs lay mostly squished on the road. Didnt see many masks on mortal remains.
Well....just download it from Bancamp and very happy and grateful indeed !!!
The Burito (formerly pony) Express just aint working to Panama these days.
Cant wait to have a listen in my car when the quarantine permit allows. Tuesday,
Thursday and Saturday between 1630 and 1830.
Cheers Bill !!!!! (...sorry...no cheers here due to booze prohibition along with the stay at home law decree)

Gotta say that I enjoying knowing that the album is coming. Having a new album from Bill arrive would be a very nice boost during these awful days....

Well I hope Dame Diana Rigg signs up a few, as you teased us with her photos from yesteryear.
