Just seen that Gary Numan has listed Sunburst Finish in his list of 13 best albums of all time. Sorry if this has been mentioned, been out the loop in Florida.....😁
... and in Gary's memoirs he more or less admitted that Bill was right about the production as everything, according to Gary, has gone brighter-sounding since 1983. Hope they try a collab someday again. Gary admitted also that he's grown up a lot since then.
Also, it's so cool that Gary bought every Be Bop Deluxe album he could and went to every show he could on the strength of the name Be Bop Deluxe. He just really dug that name.
Finally watched the Cherry Red conversation with Bill and John Leckie (Be Bop Deluxe: The Making Of 'Sunburst Finish' The Documentary) that's been available on YouTube for a while now. I was apprehensive to watch it at first because Bill wrote that he couldn't remember enough from it so I didn't want to see Bill uncomfortable, but it's nothing like that. There are plenty of interesting details all over it, memory intact.
I'm always amazed that Bill does everything live rather than recording it in sections or bits-and-pieces. Of course there must've been punch-ins here and there? The playing by the band as well was amazing. So many different styles of music even within one song. As John Leckie points out recording section-by-section was a last resort so obviously John and Bill are of the same mindset on that.
Wadcorp posted an article here that has some funny anecdotes about David Mason and the experiences he had as the piccolo trumpet player on Penny Lane and had forgotten he'd played on Music In Dreamland.
Crystal Gazing has always been a favourite from this record and it's great to hear you, Bill, explaining the Peter Pan flying around as being the inspiration.
Stumbled upon this the other day and immediately thought of Sunburst Finish ...

Really enjoyed John marveling over the process of creating the Tequila Sunrise cocktail. Did you teach him how to make those, Bill, or was it someone else who was there?

From 2012. Gary admits he didn't get on with Bill (when Bill produced Warriors in 1983) but remains a big fan.
