Listening today to Saturdays "Stereo Underground" via BBC Sounds. Its a fantastic programme well recommended. Richard Latto the DJ played a live version of Be Bop Deluxes "Ships in the Night"
I know i can hear the groans from here.
I've previously been in touch with Richard for requests etc and he has alawys been quite obliging. I am going to get back in touch and give him the heads up on Bills still active career and ask him to play something more in the style of recent Bill.
What would be the fave rave to recommend to Richard...any ideas. I know what a choice
Further to my post re Be Bop Deluxe being played on Richard Latto's "Stereo Underground radio show.
I e mailed Richard explaining Bills mighty career and copied and pasted Bills actual reply suggesting The Golden Days of Radio and Richard has kindly replied saying to watch and listen to this space in the next few weeks.
I will let you all know 😉
Thanks for all the replies, I actually got back in touch with Richard Latto and explained to him that Bill had been in touch and recommended the particular track, Bill that you suggested I also through a curve ball in there myself and suggested "Tantramatic" but doubt he could get a hold of that one.
Will keep listening and keep you posted 😉
I think you have to go with Bill’s suggestion!
'Dream Cities of the Heart' from 'Fancy Planets' and 'Imps In The Undergrowth' from 'Joy Through Amplification' as well as 'Luna On The Beach' from 'The Dreamshire Chronicles' and 'No Time Says The Clock' (either version) from 'Clocks & Dials.'
I think that, perhaps, 'The Golden Days Of Radio' from 'Fancy Planets' would appeal because it kind of mixess my '70s rock style with a more post-modern, but whimsical approach. Plus it's all about radio and the history of pop and rock music in that context. Radio DJs are suckers for stuff that references their professional domain!.
The question is, how much of Bill's back-catalogue does he actually have access to. Super Noodle Number One is a great track, but it was on a convention CD, so I doubt the BBC have got a copy. Still, in for a penny...
Bats At Bedtime
Vortexion Dream
Well, friend of mine, that's a massive selection conundrum given what we all know is a massive back catalogue!
Off the top of my head - one vocal and one instrumental:
October Sky & Super Noodle No 1
The first epitomises Bill's brilliant vocal working within a song to create an evocative and atmospheric track within fairly modern times, albeit some years ago....one of my favourites as it goes.....
The second, for me, demonstrates an example of the inherent Bill Nelson guitar sound, but moved way beyond the Be Bop era into something reflecting a different sensibility....
I know both these tracks are not from the last few years, but those are two that come to mind in the context of demonstrating a more 'Contemporary Bill'.
There's my tuppence - worth to kick off anyway.....hope you and everyone are well - and as usual.....please be careful.
