What an event that would be after the year we have all endured . And as Bill fans we are all at the age where we will have been vaccinated !!! LOL Give it a thought Bill. !!
Hans-Joachim Roedelius has done some really wonderful virtual concerts/chats. He has a Patreon setup and it seems to have worked out quite nicely. Something along these lines would be a great event. I'd be sure to join the virtual group. 😋
It might be worthwhile to rent a stage, put the various musical instruments upon it, film it with Bill playing them, edit them all together and sell that to an audience - so that the expenses would be covered. There could be an on-line auction of various items as well.
There could be the socially distant guest artists performance as well.
I understand that it would be a big production, but we have the technology and because it is a compellation it does not have to be done in a day. That allows for costume changes, guitar changes, editing and more editing. That seems ideal for Bill. Think of it as layers and layers of all Bill, all the time. Although I would think that a few guitarists would like to play a few leads.
Sadly with everything being shut down, I suppose that you could rent a venue with a stage quite cheaply. All of the filmed performances would not have to be new. You could edit in anybody that you have on tape/video/digital. It does not even have to be that good a quality of visuals. Today's technology is fantastic! Imagine if you could put Harold Budd on stage again or Ian Nelson.
Bill does holiday videos, so he knows the power of the picture. There are other ways to perform without going out on tour after gathering a band together and rehearsing. It is not like Bill has never put on a performance to a pre-recorded track before. All anyone has to do is to watch the Tower Records song selections to realize that he is really good at it.
The trick is to bring aboard the team that can get that assembly together.
I would not even mind a duet with Bill and Robert Fripp. Do a song of each others.

I would love to attend another Nelsonica or release party. Due to timing and corona, I haven't been anywhere for 18 or 20 months. Alas, we won't be going anywhere anytime soon. Vaccinations are a disaster here in NL. Only Bulgaria is going at a slower pace. Everybody is screaming at the gov't. Normally, NL health services are very well organized. They are letting us down unfortunately. We may not get our shots until June or July. As a short, fat, soon-to-be 65 year old, I am really frustrated!
I am going with Axe Victim on this one. 2022 is probably a better idea.
It would truly be wonderful to attend another Nelsonica again and see so many familiar faces, but I think this year is a little too soon because obviously, the pandemic. But here is hoping to 2022 and if Bill doesn't feel up to it due to his health etc. I'm sure we can all arrange a get together somewhere. Just like the first Nelsonica all those years ago 😉
Then how about turning over the Nelsonica discs to Jon and Martin so that they could do a mini-box set not unlike the Acquitted by Mirrors recordings?
There should be an investigation to do something like the Ben Gibbard or Robert Fripp / Toyah home shows. If only to populate the cinema here at Dreamsville. No need to leave the house!
great to give us all a wee bit of hope...and if it happens it is genuinely magical to think it will be due to covid being at worst under control and you being well enough to put something on...!!! i am sure everyones fingers are crossed that a nelsonica 21 can happen due to those conditions being met !!
But I think we need to be cautious and see how this Covid situation pans out. 2021 may not prove to be the year when all returns to some sort of 'normality.' There is still a tremendous infection rate in Europe and America, and whilst levels have dropped here in the UK, it may be that the lockdown has impacted more dramatically than the vaccinations. Until we get a little further down the line, it's perhaps foolhardy to declare this thing will soon be over. I predict that we might see another flare up after restrictions are lifted, but I hope I'm wrong surmising this.
Staging a Nelsonica event does take a tremendous effort from everyone involved. It's only a one day thing, but, because there's no regular repetiton, (such as on a tour,) each show is a one off, unique presentation, a stand-alone event with its own individual dynamic. No two shows are exactly alike.
Preparing for these performances takes months of work and planning, I have to create and prepare videos and backing tracks, a format or concept for the event, make drawings for the merchandise stall, get equipment and guitars ready and packed for shipping to the venue, deal with rehearsals, oversee support structure being in place, (guitar tech, sound engineer, team members,) autograph a few hundred albums, etc, etc. What comes across as a seamless, relaxed performance on the day rests on months of creative thinking and preparation. The reason why fans have found so much to enjoy whilst attending these Nelsonica events is because a heck of a lot hard work goes on behind the scenes. Hopefully, the end result has proved worth the effort.
This year I will be, (gulp,) 73 years old. My health is unfortunately blighted with diabetes, sight loss, partial deafness and other issues, all of which conspire to rob me of energy and confidence in a live performance situation. I'd originally said that the concert I gave on my 70th birthday would be my final live appearance, but I would like to think there might be another show of some kind one day. Maybe something a little less demanding in terms of overall complexity and preparation. Who knows?
But the Covid situation is far from over and we need to be careful. There are no quick fixes for this. Covid is an extremely contagious and deadly disease which will haunt is for several years to come. Let's take things a day at a time. If and when there is a serious improvement, and if I feel up to it, there may well be another chance to stage a Nelsonica event of some kind. Until then, I'm still fully engaged, inspired and passionate about my recording work, which is ongoing and as committed as ever.
My wife and I are not planning on anything involving social gatherings or travel at least until 2022. If we're lucky. The new Covid variants are far more contagious and give us worry. Of course we're in America which bore the brunt of massively incompetent governance during this crisis until [checks calendar…] about two months ago. Given the state of our host's health, I'm happy to have him busy creating in his studio rather than expending his precious energy covering all of the logistics required to host a Nelsonica event. Whatever it costs to attend…
@Post-Punk Monk I highly doubt that anything is going to clear up until at least 2022. I do hope that it does by then , as I am dying to travel overseas !! I also wish I could help with Nelsonica, as I think I could.. If only I was there though...!!
At best, I reckon we would be extremely fortunate to be offered the chance of a one off performance, but even that takes a massive effort on everybody's part, not least Bill's. With that, coupled with the current situation, and the uncertainty that will still move through the latter part of this year, I think it's highly unlikely that we will see this happen.

I think a livestream from Fairview studio with John Spence would be very cool😎💙
Maybe a Kickstarter type whip round amongst our community to raise the necessary funds for a streaming event later in the year?
I’d be happy to listen to Bill noodling for an hour or so in his studio.
How about a virtual Nelsonica? Live-streamed from Bill’s lair 🎼🎸🎤

Don't know why that published twice, twice??
Deleted it now so its only on once, once 😁

I still dream of being there someday and meeting you all. 😊😊😊
Well, as they say, "never say never..."

This would be AMAZING !!! Bill.. I hope you think about it ...!!! It would be a great event!
Would be great but it’s a lot of work for Bill ( and many others) and unfortunately I don’t think Bill is well enough to undertake it🙁
