Jimmy Savile & Leeds

I saw a documentary on Jimmy Savile, and it showed what a creep he was. He retired to Leeds. I'm just wondering if Bill ever ran into him at the Top of the Pops or in Leeds. I only know about Leeds from THE WHO LIVE AT LEEDS, which was a great album. But Leeds looked like a really nice place in the documentary.

I wonder if Bill would ever consider writing a song about Jimmy Savile? He wrote one for Cocteau and the guy from BIG COUNTRY, and it would be interesting to see him revisit that kind of music-making. And if he doesn't, I wouldn't blame him, because it is a bummer and depressing story. Or maybe Bill could write a song about Leeds. It looks very quaint and pleasant in the documentary.

Yeah, I saw Wakefield, and it looked wonderful too. I was impressed with the cathedral and great churches. I remember Bill was talking in an interview about doing something with the churches as an art installation. I'm not referring to Alter Pieces.

Agree with these statements and I saw the two-part documentary yesterday. The hair was often irksome.

Am waiting a while before I re-watch Louis Theroux's documentary that's still available to view. The one Jarvis Cocker did seems to have vanished.

Despite what a baddie he was, Jimmy Savile was also an innovator and Leeds as well as the Mecca Locarno dancehall in Wakefield played a prominent role in Bill's teenage musical and social life.

As upset I am about Jimmy, I'm also grateful for some of those amazing 'TOTP' clips. I realise that 'OGWT' is considered the better of the two. I like them both. Missed out on 'Jim'll Fix It' but we had some similar programmes in the US, like 'Wonderama.'

Yeah, I could never figure out if he was wearing a wig or if it was his own hair. You know he was purposely looking for attention with the clothes, over-the-top eccentricity, hamming it up to the camera. But that's nothing new with celebrities. I liked the remark that he went over time from being a weirdo eccentric to becoming an accepted pillar of the community. But he couched his evilness in his comedy and people thought he was joking whereas he was telling the truth. In time his cleverness couldn't hide it, so it came out. But he was also courting his destruction, almost challenging the media to get him. He was known for his weirdness throughout life, and even after his death, he was known for more weirdness.

Perhaps Bill could collaborate on a song about Jimmy Saville with Gary Glitter, maybe produced by Jonathan King - maybe make it a comedy song, and perhaps include it on the comedy version of Sunburst Finish as a bonus track......

Just an idea.....always thinking of helping the artist with unseen opportunities......
