Douglas is a huge BN fan and a superb musician, producer and empressario (the Harvey Goldsmith of Strathaven). This is indeed a tribute and I think it captures an essence of Bill. I don’t think someone with Douglas’s talent and musical knowledge would try to ape Bill Nelson. He’s honouring Bill and shows just how good his taste is. If there were more like Douglas Bill would be a household name and given the respect he deserves.
Obviously, I'm sorry to offend if that's what I've done. Equally though, if they are that familiar with Bill's work they should grasp the points I've made: paying tribute to someone is a demanding thing to do and evoking the sound and spirit of Bill's music is not at all easy.
I much prefer what they've produced to a lame cover version though - at least they are actually creating something which expresses something of themselves.
Hi, Mike, no offence taken, was just trying to clarify the up to date situation with the track.
If you have came across the track at the moment, you are also probably aware that both Paul and Douglas have been in a number of Scottish bands over the years.
You can see that they had a guitar sound that had a BN-like feel as it starts off. But if you want to sound like Bill it's not a guitar or a 'sound' you want - it's someone who actually plays the instrument like Bill does.
But the tribute seems well meant, so I may be being too harsh.
The better tribute is the track 'Hope' by Fiat Lux on their 'Twisted Culture' album. Skilful, sincere and a great song in its own right.
Mike, I don't think that track is fully finished yet, Douglas and Paul are constantly adding to this and the track is still evolving.
It is definitely well meant.
Was speaking to Douglas at the weekend and they are just excited about releasing a track called "Bill Nelson" and they were possibly thinking of renaming the track but just keep coming back to the original title.
Douglas has actually been at Nelsonica and some of the album launches at the Clothworkers Hall in Leeds,

Mike, Bizarre coincidence there, as I was typing the reply about Paul and Douglas's track.
Marc Riley on Radio 6 has just mentioned Paul Research of The Scars after he has just played one of their tracks. :)
