So I just ordered Modern Music: Expanded & Remastered Edition (2-disc set). Since then I found the entire Deluxe Edition is on Google Play Music, which I have, so I am really enjoying the revisit to this sweetest of albums. But that's cool, I eagerly await the CD, there's something nice about having a physical disc at a budget price to just stick in the car CD player and not fuss with digital device-isms.
ANYWAY - Can you explain the exact differences between the versions [2019 Remaster] and [2019 Stereo Mix]? My ears may not be trained enough to recognize the difference without a little education.
THANKS!

we have:
This reinvigorated version of the album possesses a clearer sound with a fuller bottom-end; in contrast, the only way to describe the original mix is woolly in comparison. To say it would be the difference between eating chalk and cheese wouldn’t be far off the mark. The new mix has added a speed to the tracks and as a result, listening through headphones is a far more pleasurable experience.

The new stereo mixes, which make up the most part of disc two of this set, are stunning. They’re pin-sharp and give the listener clear access to hear the industry, light touch and abundant talent of the band. Though these revisions are usually looked down on a bit, the ones presented here make what was already a terrific album a little bit better still. Shine also gets a new brush up and shave and we get early takes of Forbidden Lovers and The Bird Charmer’s Destiny. The latter strips back to just Bill’s voice and piano and i
OK my question seems amswered here

COOL!
Disc two of this box-set is a new stereo mix of the album. The mix feels much wider, and individual instruments are noticeably clearer. As are the vocals – you can hear the reverb on Nelson’s vocals on Down On Terminal Street with such clarity, its like hearing the album for the first time. I defy you to not crank up the volume on this new mix.
OOOO. I see now (duh!) at https://mrkinskimusicshack.com/2019/11/07/be-bop-deluxe-modern-music-deluxe-box-set-review/ "The set also includes visual material taken from a session for BBC TV’s “Old Grey Whistle Test” show broadcast in November 1976." which I hadn't noticed, so one disc is a DVD! So, dammit, I will have to order the full Deluxe package too I guess!
OK I see at https://burningshed.com/be-bop-deluxe_modern-music-deluxe_4cd_dvd "2019 stereo and 5.1 mixes by Stephen W Tayler." so therefore the Remaster and Stereo Remix are probably the same but the Remaster is in 5.1, so unless listening in 5.1 Surround, like through headphones, they should sound identical, as Bob K reports?
Thanks Bob K! Bill Nelson HELP!!! I will guess: The remaster is just a remaster of the original mix. And the 2019 Remix is a new mixdown from the original tracks, at equal quality of the remaster, maybe higher, maybe clearer sound due to contemporary equipment and methods and a rethink of the mixdown choices? Is that about right? I am interested in the process, and REVIEWS of the perceptual differences folks here hear, and especially Bill's 2 cents worth (well, his thoughts are worth alot more than that, LOL!) . Bill do you prefer the new mixes over just the remasters?
I asked my pet bat who has excellent hearing. He said, "no difference at all".
