Only now seen the very sad news of Diana Rigg's death. I adored her when I was a teenager in the '60s and had her picture on my bedroom wall, along with Jean Shripton and Marianne Faithful. I watched every episode of 'The Avengers' that she appeared in and dreamt of meeting her and perhaps forming a relationship. Basically, I had a huge crush on her. She had a quality that really got to me. Apart from her '60s model looks she was an excellent actress, actually from Yorkshire. I'm very sad that she is no longer with us. Yet another icon whirled away...,

She was a very pretty and talented lady. Steed's best colleague by far. The others were good also though.

The last time I saw her on screen was in Mackenzie Crook's "Dectectorists" - starring alongside her real-life daughter Rachael Stirling (also gorgeous). It's a great show; check it out if you can.
Just found out she was also Guy Garvey's mother in law 🤓

Hey Andy,
I also went to the Old Vic to see the Scottish play - it was a school trip (the only one I ever went on!). Diana Rigg and Anthony Hopkins - what a couple!
I thought she was wonderful in the 'Mrs Bradley Mysteriesw' tv series which she did in later life, a charming period 'whodunnit ' series that had wit and style. I never saw her in 'Game Of Thrones' though. I'm not particularly drawn towards those 'Dungeons and Dragons' type of stories, but maybe I should take a look as she was reported to be very good in it. But for me, she will always be Mrs Peel, a wonderfully seductive and attractive character...
Always had a soft spot for Diana Rigg since the Avengers...I remember back in the early seventies when I was in secondary school, we went to the theatre to see a Shakespeare play at the Old Vic. Diana Rigg was playing the part of Lady Macbeth, though I could be wrong..Anyway, I remember being in awe when seeing her ‘in the flesh’ so to speak. Afterwards we were hanging about outside and she came out, waved to us all with a beaming smile and walked past me and made her way to a waiting car!
Fifty years later, the memory is still fresh in my mind...Beautiful lady!
I had to laugh when I read this in an obit
" becoming something of a style icon and sex symbol...
She was very much a sex symbol and style icon! She was great in GoT. RIP.
She is in the upcoming remake series "All Creatures Great and Small" which is set in Yorkshire:
Very sad news indeed.
In the late '80s, when I lived in Brighton, I worked, and became friends with a retired actress called Mandy Miller whose best mate happened to be Diana Rigg. They were godparents to each others' children and all that sort of thing. Anyway, Diana was visiting Mandy for lunch one weekend, and I was invited to come along. Tragically, I had to travel to North Wales for a family event that very weekend, so was unable to make it.....what a missed opportunity!!
I don't think I've ever got over missing that one!
She was the epitome of cool, stylish sexy sophistication in my opinion - still watch her in The Avengers when I see it's on - wonderful!

I had photos of her on my wall as well when I was a kiddo. She spanned many generations of male gaze.
Just thought up a cool t-shirt ...
IMHO age doesn't really matter, it's more about having things in common. Mind you when I was 25 I had a 28 year old girlfriend and life felt as if it couldn't get any better :)
Thinking about it the character of Emma Peel was light years ahead of her time. A woman who was Steed's equal in every respect. I wonder how much of an inpact she had on some of the young females growing up in those times? A shame though that Diana Rigg's salary didn't reflect this.
“I used to get a lot of odd fan mail, but my mum enjoyed replying to it. She'd tell overexcited teenage boys, 'My daughter's too old for you. What you need is a run around the block.'"
RIP to a female icon of my childhood. Talented, intelligent, and of course very beautiful. As a young boy growing up in the 60s it became impossible not to notice the beauty around at that time - Diana, Alexandra Bastedo, Jean Shrimpton, Stephanie Powers, Annette Andre, Wanda Ventham, Jane Merrow, Francesca Annis .............. the list goes on. But Diana Rigg as Emma Peel was the complete female for me.
