I've told a couple of people in the past week that Blue As A Jewel was not only the first time the listeners heard your e-bow playing, but that it was from 1978, appearing first as a B-side to the Panic In The World single.
Feels like I've got that information wrong because Blue As A Jewel is included in the Sunburst Finish reissue and I remember being either age 10 or age 11 when I first heard Sunburst Finish as a new release on a seriously booming system in 1976 in the car of a significantly older friend of mine and I was wearing a pair of red-white-and-blue-rimmed sunglasses a gal pal gave me. We were en route or coming back from sling-shot shooting at Mt. Diablo (in Northern California).
Nineteen seventy-six is obviously not nineteen seventy-eight!
Thanks Quinault for your kind words about the collab. that Peter and I recorded.
If you're interested, I've just recorded my own cover of ...Japan... another fabulous song by Be Bop Deluxe. It's now the first song on the list of songs on my soundclick music page.

Please check it out. It's been such a great song to cover. Cheers.
I think that collaboration is one of the best in Dreamsville. On one of my playlists here somewhere I list it as being part of a Brooksie set.
I have not stayed in touch, working here on the other side of the world. I hope you both are healthy, happy and continuing to make music. Together, that was magic.
Far to kind, but thank you.
I think the original was on The Best of and The Rest of album and I've always loved it. Great lyrics as ever, a part of Bill's work that I've always admired.
The song had special meaning for me as it was the first thing I sang after some quite major surgery my thought had been bruised by having a ventilator inserted. Just a thought for all the poor people going through that at the moment.
Hi, this is indeed a truly fabulous song... a ballad? Many years ago (in 2011 to be precise) I sent Peter Brookes my own recorded backing track of this wonderful song by Be Bop Deluxe. I created all the music on my DAW...the ever user friendly... Adobe Audition (1.5). I remember using my Yamaha MSG Deluxe guitar for all the electric guitar parts...including the e-bow runs. A very inexpensive Yamaha APX-4A acoustic guitar and a Crafter 'Cruiser' bass guitar. I also used a budget priced Yamaha PSR-275 keyboard. A Zoom RT-123 drum machine and the original Line 6 Pod (2.0) What a superb and professional job Peter did when he added his vocals to the backing track that I sent to him. I can't begin to thank him enough for this. I'm sure you'll agree with me that his vocals are truly awe jaw dropping... the expert and wonderful harmonies that he's incorporated into his vocal tracks...simply stunning. So, here you have it... a musical tribute to a fantastic song... written by an amazing musician.

I remember writing the song during a tour of the USA. The songs I wrote at that time ended up on the 'Modern Music' album, but, without looking back into dusty archives, I can't recall whether that particular song made it onto the album or was recorded and held over until later.
I know some of you will think I'm shocking, but I rarely, if ever, listen back to the Be Bop Deluxe recordings and don't dwell on them in the least. It was ok at the time, and the right music for its time, but, as I always say, there's no time like the musical presen and I find it hard to consider it as anything other than a station along the way to an ultimate future destination.
Alec are you referring to the first Sunburst finish reissue with the 3 bonus tracks? one of which was Blue as a jewel .... lm pretty sure that it was recorded in the Drastic plastic era .... it has a similar vibe to Autosexual and Quest for the harvest of the stars ⭐️ ♥️
