You know, I still think of 'Poet Laureate' as being represented by John Betjeman, whose work and character I've always been fond of.
I especially loved the statement he made at the end of his life, when in a wheelchair, was asked if he regretted anything. He replied "yes, not enough sex..."
'Not enough sex' should be the battle cry of all great artists. 😉😋
Bill, I have told my wife and kids for years that you are a musical genius. I will never need any third party proof of this, but it's nice to see that the poet laureate agrees.
Extremely flattered and honoured to see such a generous endorsement of my work by our national poet laureate. That's put me in a much more positive mood than I've been experiencing of late. Thanks so much Simon!
I know Bill finds very little attractive about being Mr Big Rock Star (or Mr Big Any-Kind-Of-Star) but right now would be a fabulous time for some respect to be given by the community of critics and cultural advisers that still govern who does and doesn't get talked about by the literate parts of our society. Thanks, Mr Armitage.
Bravo!
Reading this seems a wonderful thing to me. The Summer of God's Piano and that description points to a true aficionado of Bill's music.
Fantastic to hear Bill get the recognition he deserves ! Also , he's too modest by far...

Great to see Bill being so highly rated by another legendary and accomplished Yorkshire Man.
