I have to thank Bill for having a spot in Dreamsville where we can post our music. In the past, I bought up his whole catalogue, but then I cooled on his music somewhat. Now to show my appreciation for posting here -- I feel I've almost dominated the underworld down there with the wife and the kids all looking out the same window to the world -- I'd like to start buying his music again. I haven't bought a Bill Nelson album for quite some time. So what's a really good album?
Is the guitar duet with Bowie's ex-guitarist any good? Is there one like The Satellite Sings? That was a great album! Now there must be so much to choose from, I have no idea what I'm buying. I like guitar influence albums, but not really acoustic guitar like Rosewood. Are there conceptual albums like Orpheus Ultraland? I bought that one and don't know why I like it, but I do. Maybe the cover art or the word Orpheus in the title, though I can't remember what the album sounds like. If there is a unified concept, I'm willing to take a chance. Also, I'm not big on orchestra music, so nothing that way.
I would say a guitar album is a safe or best bet for me. Is there something where things just open up? I mean as much as I like Eric Clapton he is a safe player, at least for the most part after Cream. I'd like something where you sense the guitarist is reaching, is taking a chance and, it is exciting! He may not always get it -- like he's on a high limb of a tree and there is a beautiful apple just out of reach -- and he can fall. So something chancy would be nice. My ears are so jaded… something new that hits the spot.
Yeah, any albums that are just truly fantastic and far out. The stuff I bought before was on Bandcamp and that is the best way to go for me.
Hi Vlad, I used to be a Bill Nelson 'completist', but kinda burnt my fingers financially by buying quite a few CDs in a row that were to put it mildly...very disappointing indeed.
A good friend posted me a copy of the 3 disc album Auditoria. Oh boy am I so glad that I didn't by that one.
So I would recommend Fancy Planets...Bill's last fabulous album that sounds like your cup of tea. More in this style would suit me...
Please reply if you go ahead on buying it. I think it's a great all round pop rock album when he could still write a good catchy melody.
