Just added a new, short, journal update which moves my studio refurbishment along a notch or two...but still percolating...Check it out by clicking on 'journal' at the top of this page.
Modern technology, it's continuing advances and where we are now, both with software and hardware, is quite staggering really..When you think of the myriad of amazing things you can do, facilitate, produce and create on your own, with a laptop (and necessary peripherals/software etc, obviously), it's pretty mind-blowing!....and usually the same on the expenses front!!
However, as Bill mentions in the Journal post, why is it so frustrating a lot of the time?..long-winded and laborious, seemingly overly complicated and not, as you would expect it to be given these advances, simple to execute...Even what you would imagine simple tasks of 'getting from A to B' never seem straight forward, there is mostly something lurking to cast a shadow.
I suppose once one has things up and running, got things installed and set-up properly, got different pieces of hardware and software synced-up, recognising and communicating with each other and had a little practice, all's well and you crack on, but it's getting to that stage that can sometimes feel like a nightmare...and all the different programs you have running seem to have their own idiosyncrasies and frustrations, almost random and quite chaotic in nature..strange really.
The end result?, well, when doing something related to tech and computers and software etc, I don't expect an easy journey, although sometimes it does work out quick and simple...instead of getting from start to destination of a project or task in a straightforward, flowing 'straight line', I mostly expect several detours, breakdowns, a flat tire, a U-turn or two and some thick fog along the way.....sometimes it definitely does seem counter-intuitive.
Once you have things sussed however and got your workflow up and running smoothly, it's pretty fantastic!...it's just getting there that's the hard part!
I totally agree, Tourist. Perhaps, despite all the seeming wonders of the latest tech, we're still, (in some respects,) in the Wright Brothers stage where things kind of work but could be refined and become more user friendly.
It seems that we have some great tech ideas but have not yet figured out how they can be easily executed without encountering myriad obstacles along the way. A technology that works without these frustrating, time-consuming hiccups still seems out of our reach.
