Bill, if the day you talk of was a Sunday, it must have been 1973. I checked the internet! This date in the following year, 1974, a Monday, is when Be Bop Deluxe supported Cockney Rebel at Tiffanys in Hull. My first ever gig.

Bill. Further to you mentioning that you spoke to Milton and Paul on 15-Jul-1974 at Tiffanys Hull, I noticed on Steve Harley's website an article detailing his early gigs. 15-Jul-1974 is listed and one week later on 22-Jul-1974 he played Manchester Hard Rock, and the article says it was announced that Cockney Rebel were no more!
Yes, you're right...I've always remembered it as a Sunday, so it must have been in 1973. The tour with Cockney Rebel came after we'd signed to EMI, but the 15th of July I'm referring to was definitely when Be Bop was in the very early stages of development and EMI hadn't yet signed the band. I was still working as a local government officer at the West Riding County Supplies department in the days when we used to play at 'The Duke.'
Thinking about it, it could even be 1972 if the gig happened on a Saturday? (I'm now wondering if a Saturday might have been a more likely gig night than Sunday.) But, for some reason, Sunday sticks in my mind.
Whatever, it's a heck of a long time ago! 😮
Interestingly, the Cockney Rebel gig you attended at Tiffany's in Hull in 1974 was the first time I had a conversation with Milton and Paul of the Rebels about them possibly joining Be Bop Deluxe!
