A friend of mine popped over, and we had nothing better to do than make some music. He agreed to lay the bass part, so I started just as I usually do. I instinctually lay my fingers on the keyboard and start playing whatever happens to be jumping through my mind. And when things are flowing the things jumping through your mind and fingers flow too, and there is this feeling that nothing is impossible. Creativity is amazing! If you are in the flow it almost feels that things were predestined to happen. It's as if you are building a road to somewhere, and the bricks, tools, and map are just handed to you out of the blue. And then you look back with wonder and think, "What the hell was that! What spirit possessed me to do this?" Crystal Palace was one of those pieces. It came together very quickly and effortlessly. It's not a great piece, but it sticks in my mind as an example of the creative experience I just described.
